THROUGH THE EYES OF NATE
___________________________________________________
[NEXT MONDAY, BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS, AT LOCKER]
Agh, what have I done? I ruined a good relationship with Cindy. Uh, what am I supposed to do? I can't believe I said 'dark lonely cell', I mean SERIOUSLY, who says that to a friend? Should I tell them? No, I can't. But then..... what would Cindy think of me? I'm such an idiot.
"Hey," I heard Cal's still happy voice.
"Yeah...."
"Why so glum?"
"Come on, don't act so blind. You know what I said to Cindy was cruel,"
"Then talk to her, apologize,"
"UGH, would YOU talk to someone who said you lived in a dark, lonely cell ?"
"No, b-"
"SEE?"
"Why you getting so pissed at me?"
"I'm sorry, very sorry. Really,"
"Maybe I should talk to her for you,"
"You'd do that?"
"Of course,"
"Thank you SO SO SO SO SO much."
Yes, this is good. Finally, some way to apologise. All I can do is wait and wait and wait. Well it's better than not doing anything.
[LUNCH TIME, SAME DAY]
I saw Cal talking to Cindy just now at first recess. They looked like they were fighting. I hope it's not my fault. Huh. I walked over to my locker and entered the code. Todd and Carl were following me, but then Todd saw Marianna and drooled off.
As I opened it, a small card fell out. I picked it up to read it, Carl was behind me, also reading. I saw from the corner of my eye that my sister, Alison, was coming up to me. I wonder what she needed. Maybe she had that pipe I needed for the Science project! Oh, well. I'll find out soon.
I looked upon the small sky blue coloured card. It said;
Dear Nate,
I hope you don't react to weirdly to this but the truth is,
I really like you.
I wondered who it was from. I felt flattered. It seemed like it was from....
*Gasp*"YOU like HIM?"
"Shut up! Look what you did! His sister is right there..." I looked behind and saw Cal mid-way slapping Carl. I turned back to my sister and she just stood there, shocked frozen. I quickly whispered in Cal's ear,
"I got this," she smiled back, blushing, "Hey, sis, we're just kidding!," she still stood there, frozen like fresh fish in a freezer.
I turned around to Cal and Carl, they were both fighting. Actually, Carl was teasing her while running away from her potentially dangerous claws. After some time, she gave up and walked away. I looked back at my sister, she was still frozen.
[AFTER SCHOOL, SAME DAY, NEAR SCHOOL ENTRANCE/EXIT]
I can't stop thinking about what happened at lunch time. I have no idea why I wasn't shocked. I guess it's 'cause she makes it kinda obvious, no? Ah, I don't know. I caught a glimpse of sunshine when I saw Cindy walking out the school doors.
"Cindy!" I screamed, she ignored me, "Cindy, wait! I need to talk to you!" I crashed through the school doors(not literally) and caught up to her before she left school grounds.
"Nate? What're you doin'?"
"I'm *pant* try *pant* -ing to *pant* talk to *pant* you!" I spoke with what breath I had left.
"Kay, so?"
"I'm sorry about what I said,"
"Yeah, I know that,"
"What? Really?"
"Yeah, Cal told me at recess,"
"Oh, okay then. Hey, speaking of Cal, did you have anything to do with the note she gave me?"
"Seriously? Even when APOLOGIZING you talk about her!"
"I'm sorry. I-I-I can explain why," WHAT ARE YOU DOING, NATE? I asked myself.
"Fine then. Shoot,"
"I'm leaving school,"
"Wh-what?" she looked flushed.
"Ever since we reached high school, Cal's been of with her 'clique' and I want to spend as much time with her as I can before I leave,"
"What about me?"
"Cindy, we have hung out together since the beginning of time!"
"It makes a lot more sense now,"
"I was hoping you'd understand,"
"Understand? I understand it, yeah. You'd miss her more than me, right?"
"What? Stop it. It isn't about you!"
"See what I mean," she turned around and left.
"No, Cindy, I'm sorry! Don't go! PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!" It was too late, "AGH! Why do keep doing that?"

Sorry, this chapter is quite short. The next one'll be twice as long as this one.
